Heavy-Duty Gate to Control Upstream Level: Overshot Tilt-up Gates are another example of a simple heavy-duty gate commonly used to control upstream level while allowing both water and debris to easily pass over the gate. They are not affected by debris collecting beneath the gate that can cause problems with a standard slide gate.
Lifting System: The lifting system duplicates that of a Tainter gate; cables are connected to the gate that is bolted to the bottom of the waterway by a custom robust hinge, hence the name Tilt-Up, and are pulled up collecting on spools.
Avoids Silt Build-Up: As the gate rises, it backs water upstream, allowing flow and debris to overtop the gate blade. Overshot gates are particularly suited to ovoid silt built-up at the base of a typical gate.
